I've long held a passion for taking long weekends away to discover the exotic, unusual, informative and moving locations dotted around our fragile planet. Nowhere is this more aptly summed up than in the beautiful Polish city of Krakow. I've become a regular visitor to this tiny city situated in the South Western reaches of Poland.
The city itself is packed full of baroque architecture, and no tour of the city would be complete without taking a trip in one of the many horse drawn carriages that ply their trade year round for the growing number of tourists. I'd also recommend taking an hour or two out, just to sit and watch the world go by at one of the many cafes, bistro's or restaurants that are dotted throughout central Krakow.
At the very heart of Krakow lies Market Square, probably the best spot to sit and people watch over a glass of something refreshing. It's also a great place to buy amber as well as traditional Polish lace and leather goods.
From Splendour to Sorrow!
Leaving the splendour of Krakow behind for the 45-60 minute journey west to the now infamous Oswiecim, or as it's better known Auschwitz. The images speak for themselves, and I have placed them here on the site as my own personal memorial to the millions of people, not just Jews, who lost their lives during the Great Patriotic War...will we every learn from this and sites around the world like it? I'm not sure we will!
Here are a few useful links for those of you who would like to not only discover the beauty of Krakow, but also try to understand our past so that we might improve our future!
